Offices change shape faster than their electrical installation does
An office is reconfigured every few years: a space is opened up, two meeting rooms are closed off, new equipment arrives, twenty more workstations are added. The architecture adapts quickly with glass partitions and furniture. The electrical installation does not. It is still the one designed for the previous layout, with outlets where there are no longer any desks and no capacity where the load is now concentrated.
The result is the workarounds everyone recognises: daisy-chained power strips, extension leads across the floor, a panel with no room left for one more breaker. It works until it does not, and in the meantime it is a risk no insurer covers gladly. A properly executed fit-out does not only solve the electrical problem: it is also the moment to put the data cabling in order, which is usually in worse shape than the electrical side.
What gets checked in an office fit-out
In offices the applicable regulations are the general ones, but certain points get overlooked precisely because the space is perceived as low risk.

- Actual panel and service entrance capacity against the new load.
- NTC 2050 compliance in conduit, protection devices and outlets.
- Verified grounding, particularly in areas with computer equipment.
- Lighting suited to the workstation, which also cuts consumption.
- Point-to-point certification of any structured cabling installed.
